Daniel’s 70 Week Prophecy

Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people”

 (Daniel 9:24 WEB)

Christ fulfilled hundreds of Old Testament prophecies. To view the old testament prophecies of Christ visit : Prophecy of Christ's First Coming

The prophecies of Christ were highly accurate and in the book Daniel we identify a precise timeline of Jesus’ birth, the length of his ministry and when he was crucified. The prophecy was written hundreds of years before Christ was born.

To understand the prophecy of Daniel we must first understand that each “day” mentioned in the book of Daniel represents a year.

After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise.

(Num 14:34)

And when thou hast accomplished them, lie again on thy right side, and thou shalt bear the iniquity of the house of Judah forty days: I have appointed thee each day for a year.

( Eze 4:6 )

Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

 (Dan 9:24 WEB)

This command was given in 457 BC by king Artaxerxes to rebuild the temple at Jerusalem (see Ezra 7:11 -28).

Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people”

With Each Day representing a year 70 weeks would be (70 weeks*7 days) 490 days , meaning 490 years (“ I have appointed thee each day for a year”).

The beginning of the seventy weeks would be 457 b.c. The end of the seventy weeks would be 34 A.D.

The prophecy states that the time between the command to rebuild the city of Jerusalem and to and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy” will be 70 weeks, 490 years. If we added 490 years to 457 bc we would end up approximately 34 A.D.

Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.

(Dan 9:25)

“7 weeks” (49 days) is equivalent to 49 years

“seven weeks , andthreescore and two weeks” ,

(60 weeks + 2 weeks) is equivalent to 62 * 7 = 434 years

The Last Seven Years

(final week of prophecy) 27 AD to 34 AD

The Anointing (27 A.D.)

"until Messiah the Prince there will be seven weeks and sixty two weeks."

The word Messiah means the "anointed one". Christ did not officially become the Messiah until the anointing which occurred at the baptism. He was baptized by water and by the Holy Spirit who descended in the form of a dove.

The Crucifixion (31 A.D.)

"and after the 62 weeks, shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself."

(Daniel 9: 26)

The scripture says that the messiah will die after the sixty two weeks for the sins of others. Later in the next verse we will learn which year and what day and time.
Sometime after the 62 weeks, after A.D. 27, Christ was indeed "cut off.”

And he will make a firm covenant with many for one week (7 years), but in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering; and on the wing of abominations will come one who makesdesolate, even until a complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who makes desolate."

( Dan 9:27 )

Covenant

"and he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week." (7 years)

“And he will make a firm covenant with many for one week” (7 years)

Jesus confirmed the covenant with "many" of the Jewish people for the period of his ministry (3½ years) and then after his crucifixion and resurrection, through the early Church for another 3½ years until the stoning of Stephen, 34 A.D. after which time the gospel was taken to the Gentiles.

Death ( 31 AD)

Christ was killed in the middle of the seven year period .

“but in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice”

The middle of the week would represent 3.5 years .Christ’s ministry lasted 3.5 years. If we add 3.5 years to 27 AD we get 31A.D. Christ was crucified in 31 A.D. (the middle of the prophetic week)

The prophecy of Daniel gave a precise timeline of Christ’s death and birth, hundreds of years before Christ was born.
